Mother and Child is a 1972 R.C. Gorman stone lithograph from the early Homage to Navajo Women Suite. A mother sits and gathers her child close, her burgundy dress with its cream trim encircling the child’s pale garments — the two figures reading almost as one form against the plain warm ground. It is the suite’s tender core subject, drawn with the monumental simplicity that defines Gorman’s first mature prints.
Printed in an edition of only 70, this lithograph is a keystone for collectors of early R.C. Gorman editions, the Homage to Navajo Women Suite, and Native American mother-and-child imagery.
