Adoration

Adoration is a 1978 R.C. Gorman oil pastel of a mother bending tenderly over her infant, executed in his loose, expressive drawing hand. Rendered in charcoal, sienna, and warm ochre strokes on a pale ground, the piece reduces the figure to flowing gestural contours and leaves much of the page breathing in white space, a hallmark of Gorman’s early pastel work. The result is intimate and timeless — a universal motherhood subject filtered through a Navajo artistic lens.
