Chama, a 1982 R.C. Gorman lithograph, is a striking curled composition of a Native woman hugging her knees within a vivid red-orange coral mantle that envelopes her shoulders and frames her face. Her cream skirt and bare feet spill forward in relaxed folds while her dark hair trails across her cheek. The sky-wide gradient background rises from a soft peach horizon through lavender and deep plum, giving the figure an intimate, almost sculptural presence against the evening sky. Gorman’s confident color blocking and tender eye contact with the viewer make this a signature early-1980s image. Signed and numbered from a limited edition, Chama is a centerpiece acquisition for collectors of Gorman lithographs, Navajo figurative art, and warm-palette Southwest fine art prints.
