Cherish

Cherish, a 1974 R.C. Gorman oil pastel, is a quintessential Gorman minimalist figure study rendered in a single sweeping charcoal line that traces the full silhouette of a seated Native woman wrapped in a voluminous blanket. Only her profile peeks from the top of the composition, her black hair tucked into a low chignon, a touch of warm ochre shading softening the jaw.
