Contemplation, a 1975 R.C. Gorman lithograph, revisits the artist’s beloved seated nude figure study, a Navajo woman with long flowing hair tilting her head back while her hands rest on a raised knee. Gorman prints the piece in black ink on a warm ivory ground, the figure built from fluent contour lines and a dense hatched shadow behind her head and shoulders that anchors the otherwise airy composition. The 1975 edition continues the graphic clarity of the earlier 1971 state, emphasizing gesture and introspection over color. A superb example of Gorman’s black and white line mastery and a must-have acquisition for collectors of Gorman lithographs, Southwest fine art, and Native American figurative prints.
