Crescent Moon

Crescent Moon, a 1987 R.C. Gorman lithograph, places a reclining Navajo woman on the desert floor beneath the sandstone buttes of Monument Valley, a thin white crescent and scattered stars hanging in the deep navy sky above. She wears a warm rose pink blouse and a voluminous periwinkle blue skirt that falls in sculpted folds, her head tilted back toward the night. Gorman washes the distant mesas in blush coral and lavender, and the desert ground fades from dusky mauve to pale peach where the figure rests.
