Damita State II, a 1979 R.C. Gorman serigraph, reimagines the Damita standing figure in a dusty mauve palette that softens the drama of the original red version. The Navajo woman stands with her head tilted back and her right arm raised toward the sky, her flowing muted purple dress belted at the waist and tumbling down in long folds defined by bold black outlines. A pale blush pink background washes the figure in warm light. Her dark hair sweeps into a low tail at the nape of her neck, her face serene and lifted. As State II of the Damita serigraph series, this print is a prized acquisition for collectors of Gorman state variations, Southwest serigraphs, and Native American figurative fine art.
