Danya St III

Danya State III, a 1980 R.C. Gorman lithograph, completes the Danya trilogy with a third state rendered in warm ochre, soft gray, and touches of coral. The Navajo woman is seen again in left facing profile with eyes closed, her jet black hair bundled into a chongo wrapped with a white ribbon. Her turquoise teardrop earring is enriched here with small coral red accents that pick up across the soft ochre blouse. The background shifts to a cooler gray cream, giving this state a more reflective, overcast quality than its siblings. As State III of the Danya series, this lithograph is a must have for collectors chasing all three states of Gorman’s classic portrait trilogies.
