Esperanza, State I, 1995 Lithograph by R.C. Gorman. A sitting Navajo woman in a moment of quiet repose is enveloped in a sumptuous purple blanket adorned with flowing folds that demonstrate Gorman’s unparalleled ability to render fabric. She wears a pink skirt and purple headwrap, her dark hair flowing freely. Beside her sits an exquisite Acoma pueblo pottery vessel with traditional black and white geometric designs. Blue wildflowers bloom on either side of the composition, rooted in the red earth of the high desert. The background glows with a sunset palette of coral, orange, and cream tones. This State I features the lavender-purple blanket. An essential work for collectors of Gorman lithographs, Southwestern art, and pueblo pottery imagery.
