“Luminarias,” a 1996 lithograph by R.C. Gorman, is a richly detailed and festive scene depicting three blanket-wrapped Navajo figures gathered before an adobe gateway arch, with a mission church behind them glowing with golden luminaria candles placed along its walls and twin bell towers. The deep cobalt blue night sky is framed by bare winter tree branches on either side, while evergreen shrubs flank the gate. The three figures are wrapped in vibrant striped blankets in warm reds, pinks, and oranges with blue accents, their faces barely visible within the folds. The combination of warm candlelight, cool night sky, and richly colored textiles makes this one of Gorman’s most narrative and evocative lithographic compositions. A standout piece for collectors of Gorman lithographs and Southwest fine art.
