Ranchos Twilight

Ranchos Twilight, 1988, a masterwork lithograph by R.C. Gorman, presents a processional of ten Navajo women standing before the monumental adobe form of a pueblo under a star-filled twilight sky. Each figure wraps herself in blankets of distinctive color: vibrant orange, deep maroon, pale pink, soft lavender, cream, burgundy, rich purple, peach, salmon, and turquoise-blue. The composition balances intimate human scale against architectural grandeur, while the starry night sky and cooler color palette create a meditative, almost sacred atmosphere.
