Taos Pueblo Woman St II, 1978, Lithograph by R.C. Gorman. The second state of Taos Pueblo Woman transforms the composition through the addition of color while maintaining the foundational line work. The head covering and upper garment now appear in soft mauve and lavender tones against a warm cream background. Decorative red and green flowers embellish the shawl, adding ornamentation and life to the figure. The lower garment retains its striped textile quality in dark and light values. This state demonstrates how color and decorative detail enrich the composition without sacrificing its graphic strength. An important acquisition for collectors of Gorman’s printmaking evolution and the relationship between abstraction and decoration in his art.
